Assateague State Park is Maryland's only ocean park. It is located on Assateague Island, a barrier island bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and on the west by Sinepuxent Bay. Two miles of ocean beaches offer swimming, beachcombing, sunbathing, surfing and fishing. The island's bayside offers visitors the chance to explore secluded coves by canoe or kayak. The marsh areas have a variety of wildlife, including deer, waterfowl and feral horses.Assateague was selected by National Geographic Travel magazine in 1994 as one of the 10 best state parks in the United States.

- Bike trail, boat launch/marina, nature programs, camp sites, camp store, dumping station, food & beverage, fishing, swimming, nature center and kayak rentals.
- Swimming - a guarded swimming area available daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Fishing - Fishing is available in the boat launch area or from the ocean beach.
- Pets - No pets are permitted in the park.
- Boating - Launch facilities are on the mainland park acreage.
- Camping - 350 sites are available for camping, with a fire ring and picnic table at each campsite, limited electric hook-ups available. The park can take reservations for ALL campsites from April 24, 2009 through October 11, 2009 and can also take reservations for E, F, G and H loops through October 25, 2009. October 12-24, 2009 is first come first served for A, B, C, D, I & J loops. Click here for camping season beginning and ending dates, and camping and shelter service charges.
